Asphalt Worker Tips: Filing Workers Comp Claims

Follow Us

Working in a physically demanding industry can be very fulfilling. But it also comes with a set of challenges that workers must go through every year. If you are new to the asphalt paving industry, you may not be aware of these challenges. It is why we created a section to provide tips to workers on different issues. This week’s topic is filing workers’ compensation claims.

How to File a Workers’ Comp Claim

It is not something workers like to think about – getting injured at work. And it is not as common as some would lead you to believe. But it does happen. It is a physical industry with many machines operating in the field. Things can go wrong. If you happen to get hurt at work, and you know it was not your fault, you are eligible to file a workers’ compensation claim.

But many workers are scared to file these claims, because they are not sure how their employers will react. If you are involved in this situation, be very up front with your employer. When you get hurt, go and tell your supervisor. The company will have a system in place. They will tell you to go to a specific medical facility to get checked out. Listen to what they say.

Should I Hire a Lawyer?

Unless you have reason to believe you will get shafted by your employer, there is no need to hire a lawyer. If you are doing everything asked of you – and you present all your medical records to your employer – you should be fine. They will see that you got hurt and received treatment. You will get your compensation.

But if you get the sense that you are being given the runaround – and you are not going to get paid – call a lawyer. They will help you go to court against your employer, if it comes to that.
